The problem

Students live in PDFs and phone photos. A portal wants a scan under 200 KB, a signed form, a HEIC turned into something it can read. The tools that do it either cost money or upload your files to a stranger's server.

The approach

Do the work on the device. One Rust codebase compiles to a native app for macOS, Windows and Linux, and to WebAssembly for the browser. No account, no upload, no telemetry.

  • PDF. Edit text and images, fill and sign forms, merge, split, redact, password-protect, compress, OCR, PDF/A.
  • Images. 20 formats in, including iPhone HEIC. 17 out. Compress to a target size.
  • Export. PDF to Word, PowerPoint, RTF and HTML.
  • Automation. Every feature is also a headless command-line tool and an opt-in MCP server.

What I owned

All of it, as my final-year project: an independent fork of the open-source PdfCraft engine, turned into a student product. Rust and egui across desktop and web, the WebAssembly build, packaging for three platforms, and the browser release.

Outcome

Live in the browser at dockit.ejimone.me. 23 interface languages.
